Industrial Automatic Gates
What do you need to know when buying roll-up gates for stores?
Design features of roll gates
Manufactured according to the principle of roller shutters, this type of gate for industrial buildings is made on the basis of steel or aluminum, additionally covered with a special protective paint or varnish, guaranteeing an increase in the service life of the structure and its protection from adverse external influences.
Structurally, the roll systems include a web formed by metal lamellae and a box equipped with a shaft. The shaft is used for winding the gate leaf, which moves up and down along the guides. A mechanical or automatic drive is used to open and close such structures. In fact, the gates for the trading floor of such a plan are an enlarged and modified copy of roller shutters that ensure the free passage of people and the passage of equipment.
When closed, the connected lamellas are unwound, closing the space from the penetration of unauthorized persons and hacking attempts. At the same time, roller gates made of steel and aluminum alloys can have different thicknesses, which means varying degrees of heat and noise insulation, as well as vandal-proof protection. These can be one- or two-layer structures, as well as products of arbitrary width and height, supplied with an additional insulating layer of insulation between two metal plates.
Such advantages of using roller gates as a fairly light weight, ease of installation and management, as well as durability and good anti-burglary qualities have provided them with a truly wide scope of application. They are successfully installed in warehouses, garages, covered parking lots, as well as all kinds of retail outlets for any purpose. Their ever-increasing popularity can also be explained by the fact that in fairly limited areas where industrial, roll-up gates or sliding gates will not become, they can be mounted in a matter of hours, without taking up much space and without compromising the aesthetics of the interior.
Automation for roll gates
As already mentioned, roller gates can be operated manually, but the installation of automation makes their use really practical. At the buyer's choice, the market offers a huge number of automatic drives that allow lowering and lifting the canvas in a matter of seconds. At the same time, the controls can be both local and remote.
Let 's list the main types of automation design:
- Intravenous – such automation is hidden behind a protective shield and has a direct connection with the shaft. This drive is not very powerful, but for small retail outlets it can become a worthy analogue to manual control.
- Bulk – the motor of such automation is mounted on the side of the moving shaft, it itself is quite massive and has large fasteners, becoming the prerogative of weighty industrial gates that need quite impressive traction and a tangible power reserve.
- Chain – is characterized by simplicity of design and is driven by a pair of gears and a chain.
Based on the total weight of the gate leaf, as well as the power inherent in the selected drive, it can take from two to eight seconds to lift the gate. The slowest in operation is the chain drive.
Nuances that you should pay attention to when buying a roll-up gate:
- The sizes that can be considered the most important indicator. Usually, representatives of a bona fide manufacturer of roller gates send a measurer to an object that accurately measures the dimensions for the manufacture of a future gate structure.
- Maximum design performance – it should be borne in mind that some types of gates have limitations in power and weight.
- The composition from which the canvas is made is also not worth saving on this factor, since cheap analogues are not able to provide proper protection against unauthorized entry and wear out much faster than good–quality products.
- The presence of additional functions – we are talking about additional thermal insulation, if the gate faces the street, or giving their structure fire resistance.
- Speed – products of increased power should be purchased in cases where intensive use of the structure or its prompt opening and closing is expected.
- Control type – automated gates do not always mean "remotely controlled". Be sure to discuss the type of automation in detail when ordering the gate design.
